A Legacy of Community

For Providence, seeds of community began to sprout 50 years ago when the deacons of Second Christian Reformed Church of Englewood and surrounding churches saw the needs of their aging church members. They called on faithful men and women to work together to give people a better life as they get older.

That community of workers and dreamers established a place where ailing seniors could experience community as well. Our first community – Rest Haven in Palos Heights – was a place that offered medical care with a smile, but also mealtime devotions, friendly conversations over coffee, and social opportunities that people looked forward to together. It was, and still is, a community.
