Vision and Expertise Shared from the Heart

Richard Van Hattem, Chair
Faith Church (Dyer, IN)

Recently retired from an active career, Rich Van Hattem has a fresh appreciation for how unique the retirement journey can be for each person who embarks upon it. Having spent a lifetime in leadership at National Waste Services and Allied Waste Industries, he is now finding new ways to serve and new gifts to use — in his church, his community, and his family. Since his own children were young, Rich has invested himself in solid, Christian education by serving on school boards. His involvement with Providence Life Services will allow him to expand his influence to include the other end of the aging spectrum. Rich loves spending time with his children and grandchildren, and that sense of family is important to the Providence brand.

Richard Schutt, CEO
Providence Life Services
Orland Park Christian Reformed Church (Orland Park, IL)

With more than 30 years of leadership experience in serving seniors, Rich Schutt is a sought-after expert who generously shares his gifts and vision with similar ministries across the nation. He has served as Chair of the board of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, and has chaired the Life Services Network Association and the Health Resources Alliance boards. He has spoken extensively on issues affecting aging services, including Strategic Planning, Alliances, Technology, and Public Policy. Having earned his master’s degree in Health Administration from Governors State University, he periodically returns there to teach courses in Nursing Home Administration and Concepts of Long-Term Care. He currently serves as a member of the Owner/Operator Advisory board of the National Investment Center. Rich also puts his faith into action by serving on his local church and school boards
