Ella Van Prooyen
Glistening snowflakes melting on wool coats. The smell of her mother's Sunday perfume. The rhythm of the bobsled making its way to church. Ella Van Prooyen's memories invoke all the senses.
She was born in Chicago, and at the age of two she moved with her family to a 40-acre farm in Lansing, Illinois. After marrying, she lived in Highland, Indiana, where her husband and son opened the family store — Van’s Home Furnishings — and sold radios, televisions, furniture and other treasured possessions to make houses feel like homes.
"God has been so good to me throughout my life," says Ella with a bright smile. She is 97 now, and her memories are crystal clear reminders of His faithfulness and love. Her life at Providence Rehabilitation of South Holland is another example of His provision, for Ella gets exactly the care she needs, in the context of people who love her.
