Lewis Seifert
It isn't hard to imagine Lewis Seifert as a preacher. He loves to share stories from his years serving congregations in the Free Methodist Church. Now 97 years old, Lewis demonstrated an early understanding of heavenly treasure.
During the Depression, his father couldn't find work, but young Lewis got a job in a grocery store, earning $5.50 a week. He gave $5.00 to his father and tithed 50ยข. The entire family — Lewis, his parents, his brother and sister — all lived on that weekly $5.00.
Grateful to God for seeing them through, Lewis dedicated the rest of his life to pastoral service. Even today, he continues to store up treasures in heaven by leading resident devotionals, chairing the garden club, and singing in the Village Woods choir!
His zest for living was publicized a few years ago on a Chicago TV show called "190 North." Lou Canellis, the 190 North anchor, did a story on the "Swingin' Seniors" — a group of Village Woods residents trained by the Chicago Bulls to perform a short dance routine at six home games. During the taping, when Lou found out that one of the Swingin' Seniors — Lewis — was 94 years old, he interviewed him personally!
