Michael Duffek
Born paralyzed, Michael Duffek has endured 38 major surgeries and numerous extended hospital stays. But that never kept him from "clowning around" — literally. Michael was a professional clown who performed with Chicago favorites Bozo, Cookie, and Wizzo.
His personality still sparkles with fun — he loves making balloon animals for fellow Providence residents and staff. His example gives other people hope, and he is quick to offer a word of encouragement to anyone who feels like giving up.
"One thing never stopped me," says Michael. "The word 'no.'" Fellow residents at Providence Rehabilitation of Palos Heights who know his story agree — and find themselves inspired to reach beyond their own limitations.
