Rudy and Pat Freimuth
It started on a baseball diamond. Rudy and some friends went there almost every night after work, just to throw the ball around. But one night, a group of ladies was there to play a game, and they asked Rudy and his friends if they would help umpire.
Rudy was the first base umpire. When Pat stepped to the plate, she hit the ball to one of the infielders. As Rudy tells the story, "I wasn't watching the play so much as I was watching Pat run down the baseline. Maybe that accounts for the fact that she was out by a mile — but I called her safe!" Less than a year later, Rudy and Pat were married.
Today, with 58 anniversaries behind them, they share warmth, wisdom, and wisecracks with the Providence family at Holland Home.
