Pray for Providence - May

THE BLESSED HOME
The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.

This is no dream of some enthusiast, but the solemn declaration of the infallible Word. God shall be known among all people, and his gracious sway shall be acknowledged by every tribe of mankind. Today it is far from being so. There is much rebellion. There are many lords and many gods! So we pray with more fervency, "Your kingdom come!" Here, where Satan triumphed, Jesus shall be crowned, and the Lord Omnipotent shall reign.

Prayer | We thank you, Lord, for your wonderful works to the sons of men. You satisfy those who are thirsty, and fill the hungry with good things. Amen.

THE HIGHEST CALLING

This promise of God made to Israel belongs spiritually to all believers. Christians who let their light shine before men serve Christ's saving purposes for the world. We may work or trade as others do, and yet we may be solely and wholly the ministering servants of God. Our chief occupation shall be to present the perpetual sacrifice of prayer, praise, and self-consecration to the living God.

Prayer | With the presentation of our thanks, we herein offer ourselves to you as living sacrifices, dear Lord. Amen.

I DELIGHT TO DO YOUR WILL

Joy characterizes and validates all genuine Christian service. Those who serve God with a sad countenance do what is unpleasant to them, and as such do not serve him at all. God desires no slaves to grace his throne. His angels serve him with songs, not with sighs. A murmur would be a mutiny in their ranks. Obedience that is not voluntary is disobedience. Let our gladness proclaim that we serve a good master.

Prayer | Lord, we would serve you with mirth, and so express our thanks and your goodness. Amen.

PROMISES: GOD'S AND MAN'S

Too often man's word is merely a clay pot broken with a stroke. On man's word, hang only what it will bear. On your own resolve, depend not at all. On the promise of your God, hang time and eternity, this world and the next. Human frailty sends us searching for God's divine dependability.

Prayer | As we break bread, we feel our need for you, our Father in heaven. Because you have given, we may now partake. Joyfully we return sincere thanks in Jesus’ name. Amen.
