Ingalls Rehab Services

Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of South Holland begins working with Ingalls Health Systems to analyze hospital readmission rates and develop clinical pathways designed to minimize hospital recidivism. The result is a partnership that combines the care of Providence with the rehab expertise of Ingalls.


Park Place of Elmhurst

Retirement Living at Park Place opens in February, and the first residents move in.
A few months later, the Health & Wellness Center opens, providing Assisted Living, Rehab, Memory Support, and Skilled Nursing. Park Place is our first “Life Care” community, offering residents a vibrant lifestyle at a locked-in rate, with guaranteed access to additional services as new health needs arise.

Thomas Place

Providence partners with Ryan Companies to provide quality retirement living to area seniors on limited incomes. Construction on Thomas Place begins in April, with a goal of opening in a year.

Victorian Village Health & Wellness Center

Having received State approval as “the first in Illinois” to offer skilled nursing in a “Small House” setting, the Providence community celebrates at a groundbreaking ceremony in early December.

Right on schedule, Thomas Place opens, and quality affordable housing becomes available to seniors in Orland Park.

2013 – A ribbon-cutting ceremony is held in May at Thomas Place Orland Park, and attenders tour the beautiful apartments and common areas

South Holland campus

2013 – Providence Life Services divests ownership of Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of South Holland and Holland Home. As of May 1, the entire South Holland campus is owned by FNR Healthcare Group and managed by Villa Healthcare. Providence Board Chair Arnold Koldenhoven says in a written statement to residents and families, “Our strategic planning goals have always included new programs and continued upgrades to all our existing communities. However, economic uncertainties and the government’s reimbursement and delays in payments have put constraints on achieving those goals.” The sale of the South Holland campus provides needed resources for other Providence services.


Providence begins a year of celebration with a special Association Meeting marking the 100th anniversary of the opening of Holland Home. Holland Home began offering retirement living to area seniors in 1914. In 1969, Holland Home merged with Rest Haven, which had begun offering skilled nursing care in 1960.



In February, Viola Van Dam, posing here with staff and family, becomes the first resident of Victorian Village Health & Wellness Center, the first “Small House” in Illinois. “Small House” care is a new model of skilled nursing that takes place in a residential setting.

Arbor Place of Lisle

Providence partners with Ryan Construction again to offer affordable senior living in Lisle, Illinois. Arbor Place of Lisle opens in September.


On June 1, Bill De Young officially takes on a new role — Chief Operating Officer. His decades of experience with Providence Life Services, most recently as Chief Financial Officer, equip him with a unique perspective that will help position Providence for continued growth.

August 2016

August 2016 – At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Park Place Health & Wellness Center of St. John, staff, Board members, constituents, vendors, donors, local media, and other interested members of the surrounding community get to see what “Small House” living actually looks like.

December 15, 2016 – On a bitter winter day, the first Retirement Living residents sign their papers, pick up their keys, and begin moving their belongings into Park Place of St. John.



Providence Hospice expands into Indiana, opening up new opportunities for service in that state. Providence Hospice has been offering services in Illinois since 2002, and many families have expressed appreciation for the spiritual support they received during a Providence Hospice experience.

During the Global Ageing Network (GAN) conference in September, Providence Life Services CEO Rich Schutt was named the incoming Chairman of the Board for the organization. The annual conference, which was held this year in Montreux, Switzerland, connected more than one thousand aged care professionals from more than 20 countries. Rich has served on the Network’s board for several years, most recently as treasurer.


On April 17th, Bill De Young was officially sworn in as the new Chairman of the Board of LeadingAge Illinois, one of the largest and most respected associations of providers serving Illinois’ older adults. LeadingAge Illinois advocates quality services, promotes innovative practices and fosters collaboration.
