In the early 1980s, people in Chicago’s western suburbs wanted the kind of care Providence was already providing in Palos Heights. So we began petitioning the state for a “Certificate of Need,” which would allow us to build a new nursing home in the west suburbs.
At that time, however, Illinois was not issuing Certificates of Need, so we were not able to build. Undeterred, we began searching the west suburbs for existing nursing homes that might be available for purchase. If we could buy an existing facility and transform it into a community worthy of the name Providence, we could meet the continuing demand for quality care.
When we contacted the owners of Bridget Manor in Downers Grove, they were willing to transfer ownership of the property. The building needed plenty of work — a new roof, new windows, an improved entrance, updated community areas, and enhanced landscaping. The structural and aesthetic enhancements served notice that this nursing center was under new management.
Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Services of Downers Grove began accepting applications for residency in 1984. Five years later, we added Saratoga Grove to the campus, which now provides retirement living, assisted living, and memory care!
Today we continue to offer top-quality skilled nursing care accredited by the Joint Commission. But most of our clients come to Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Services of Downers Grove for subacute rehab. We offer Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy from licensed experts.
