Sharon knew she needed to find safe, affordable, skilled nursing care for her parents, so she went with the name she trusts — and the place she works– at Providence Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Zeeland. Read on for this family’s story:
Dorothy Houghton’s daughter Sharon, who had worked for Providence for almost a decade at the time, helped move her parents there. It was a tough decision.
“I was devastated and I really struggled with it,” Sharon says.
But she didn’t struggle long, “It turns out that it was the best thing I could have done for them. They loved it here.”
Sharon’s father passed away a couple years ago, but Dorothy still enjoys her life at Providence. As someone who used to work in nursing, Dorothy knows what is important when it comes to healthcare.
“It meets all my needs and some besides,” Dorothy says. “And if I need something, the staff is always eager to help. If they don’t know the answer, they find someone who does.”
And it isn’t just about the things she needs.
“The staff is always eager to help,” says Dorothy, skilled nursing care resident at Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation of Zeeland.
“I enjoy the little touches around here, like ice cream every night!” she says.
And Sharon has peace, knowing her parents appreciated her choice. She says, “I told them if I was rich, I would buy them a castle, and they said, ‘This is just like one—only smaller!’”
