DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (June 2016) – Illinois State Representative Peter Breen recently stopped by Saratoga Grove and Providence of Downers Grove, speaking with residents and taking a tour of the senior living communities. The tour included Providence’s rehab department, where Breen expressed his amazement that clients were able to recover and return home so quickly. Executive Director Deji Adegoye took the opportunity to explain the close relationships that Providence is building with the area hospitals – a relationship that benefits both Providence and the hospitals, but most importantly, the clients. “It’s important to us that our clients successfully rehab – we work with the managed care organization and with our therapy partner, Marianjoy, to help our clients get back home as soon as possible,” Deji said. After the tour of next-door Saratoga Grove, residents and staff gathered in the library for a reception with the representative. More than 25 residents and staff attended the address, along with the Leading Age Illinois Director of Communications, Jason Speaks, and the representative’s wife, Margie Breen. Rep. Breen spoke about his first year and a half in office, including both his triumphs – such as having several bills submitted – and his struggles with state […]

Honorees from Park Place of Elmhurst: Stephanie James, CNA – Skilled Stephanie is extremely compassionate and always has a positive attitude. ZEELAND, Mich. (February 2015) — We have the technology — and now it’s in Michigan. Providence Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of Zeeland (Mich.) is now using the AlterG Bionic Leg to help clients get moving again — and it is the first rehab center in the state to have this technology. Providence of Zeeland joins its sister rehab centers, Providence of Palos Heights (Ill.) and Downers Grove (Ill.), in using the new wearable robotic trainer. The Bionic Leg is activated when the patient shifts weight, and it provides support to help patients naturally re-learn how to use an injured limb. Read more about the benefits of the Bionic Leg here.
CRETE, Ill. (January 2015) — To Becky Huiner, Village Woods residents feel like family — especially when they are family. Becky serves as the Community Coordinator at Village Woods Christian Retirement Community. She works with the admissions and marketing departments, organizing events, conducting tours, and helping independent living residents get settled — including her own grandmother. “When people are looking for a place for their loved one, I tell them this is a place where people feel at home,” Becky said. “I tell them I moved my grandma in, and she loved it here.” Becky’s grandmother — Fran Jager — was never a stranger to Village Woods, which is owned and operated by Providence Life Services. Fran worked at Holland Home (then owned by Providence) in Roseland, before serving in Providence’s corporate office for 30 years. After more than three decades of serving the communities, Fran moved in — three times. She lived at Holland Home in South Holland before she moved to Village Woods. And because her care needs changed, she now lives at Providence Healthcare and Rehab Center of Palos Heights. Fran’s daughter (and Becky’s aunt), Beverly Hoitsma, also found her calling at Providence. She was the Director of […]
