TINLEY PARK, ILL. (March 2014) — Providence Life Services offers skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services in three Illinois locations. This year, all three of those locations have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation, as well as a special certification in post-acute care.
“We are honored to be recognized like this,” says Cheryl Widdowson, Chief Administrative Officer of Providence Life Services. “Not only is it encouraging for us to receive an endorsement of the quality work we are doing, but it’s also helpful for people who need our services to see that we are endorsed by the most respected standards-setting body in healthcare.”
Providence of Downers Grove, Providence of Palos Heights, and Park Place Health & Wellness Center (Elmhurst) all underwent rigorous on-site surveys to obtain The Joint Commission’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Accreditation. The survey included evaluations for compliance with standards of care related to:
- Advanced rehabilitation services
- Health care quality
- Patient and resident safety
- Infection prevention and control
- Medication management
“In achieving Joint Commission accreditation and certification, Providence has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients and residents — a level that goes beyond federal and state requirements,” says Gina Zimmermann, M.S., Executive Director, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Accreditation, The Joint Commission. “Accreditation and certification are voluntary processes, and we commend Providence for successfully undertaking both of these challenges to elevate their standard of care and instill confidence in the communities they serve.”
The Joint Commission’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Accreditation program was established in 1966 and today accredits nearly 1,000 organizations offering nursing and rehabilitation services. The Rehabilitation and Advanced Care Certification option became available as part of the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Accreditation program in July 2013.
“Providence has always been committed to quality and excellence,” says Cheryl Widdowson. “Having The Joint Commission recognize that is really an affirmation of what we’re already doing. We’re proud to display the Gold Seal and let people know we’ve been recognized for our commitment to excellence and continual improvement.”
