Meet Our Chef

Chef Steve Poskin has a passion for preparing great food and sharing his creations with others.  He describes his style as “simple, using fresh ingredients and classical techniques to accent the food’s natural flavors.”  

Steve began his career in the hospitality industry at the age of fourteen, working at a banquet facility in his Illinois hometown. From the beginning, he enjoyed the fast pace of the restaurant business, and the challenges that came along with it. He knew early on that becoming a chef was the career path he was meant to follow.

As he worked his way up from dishwasher, to buffet runner, to prep cook, Steve learned more and more about professional cooking and decided that he was interested in pursuing a formal education in the field.  At age eighteen, he enrolled as a student in the award-winning Culinary Arts program at Joliet Junior College.  While there, he studied under many highly-regarded chefs, including Certified Master Pastry Chef Albert Imming.

Steve has worked as Sous Chef and Executive Chef at a variety of corporations, including Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana, home of the Indiana National Golf Club, and Chicago’s historic venue, Navy Pier.  This phase of his development taught Steve volumes about upscale quantity food production, serving events for up to 8,000 guests.  Highlights included a regional dealer meeting for a major automobile manufacturer serving 2,500 guests five meals over a two-day period, and a North American conference for an international pharmaceutical company serving 4,000 attendees at a themed reception with over 60 different menu items. Steve also had the privilege of feeding many local and national celebrities, including Barry Bonds, Nicholas Cage, Mayor Richard Daley, Mike Ditka, Clint Eastwood, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Ryne Sandberg, and even Ronald McDonald and Bozo the Clown. He also had the honor of working for Chef Robert Lang, five-time Hyatt Chef of the Year with over 30 years experience with the company, and Chef Alain Roby, two-time Guinness World Record holder.

We feel abundantly blessed that Steve has chosen Park Place for his next culinary voyage, and our residents enjoy the many memorable dining experiences he gifts to them.
