Meet our Chef

“This is family,” Cindy Schaefer says of Victorian Village. She should know; she’s worked with our organization since 2012, and her team has created quite a dining experience for our residents here.

“I love the challenge of creating inspired dishes and creative menus for our residents,” she says. She especially enjoys the community atmosphere her Dining Services team brings to large events, like the holiday parties, summer picnics, and the Victorian Village Supper Club events, where residents have the opportunity to experience different regional cuisines and cultural experiences.

Cindy is a formally trained chef, and has worked in restaurants and country clubs. She also owned and operated her own catering company. For almost a decade, she worked as a corporate chef in a large international food company, but has spent the past 15 years working in healthcare food services

“Working for Providence has given me the opportunity to create my own menus and write all of my own recipes,” she says. “I love that I can be creative and not have to follow “cookie-cutter” recipes and menus.

Cindy’s meals are quite popular at Victorian Village, but she has too many favorite creations to choose just one. “I think my best go-to is linguini and clams,” she says. “When I see little neck clams at the market, it’s on the table that night.”

Cindy and her husband have been married for 45 years. They have two daughters and two grandsons. When she’s not here at Victorian Village, she enjoys dining with friends and family and gardening.
