Park Place of St. John: Our Story

On October 16, 2014, Providence Life Services broke ground on its first Indiana community: Park Place of St. John. Park Place would bring Providence-quality retirement living, skilled nursing, rehab therapy, memory care, and other care services to Northwest Indiana. Located at the entrance of The Gates of St. John subdivision, and built on land generously donated by supporters, this newest development was designed to meet the needs of an expanding Providence family. Part of this new design included three innovative Small Houses for Skilled Nursing care, similar to the homes already popular at Victorian Village in Homer Glen, Illinois.

Led by Providence

“By God’s providence, we come to the Gates of St. John,” said Providence Life Services CEO Richard Schutt at the groundbreaking ceremony. “Today marks the beginning of many years of service to the St. John community.”

In the Fall of 2016, the Small Houses opened, and on December 15, 2016, Retirement Living residents signed their papers, picked up their keys, and began moving in to Park Place of St. John.

Blessed By Growth

Park Place experienced an overwhelming community response to their initial 60 Retirement Living apartments. Thanks to a generous donation, Providence Life Services broke ground March 28, 2018, on Phase II, which added 54 new apartments to the campus. By the fall of 2019, residents began moving to the newest phase of Retirement Living.

In response to the need for more care services in Northwest Indiana, Park Place opened a Catered Living program in April 2022. This unique program offers assisted-style living to residents who need some help with daily activities. We look forward to the continued growth of our Park Place family.
